    Recommended High-Temp Thread Sealant

    Hi Guys,

Turbo kinda fell off the car, hanging on by 2 studs, so I'm gonna replace the gasket and bolt it up again using new studs and what not.

Just wondering what thread sealants are recommended for high temp areas like the turbo and manifold. Don't want this thing falling off again...

    Cheers,
    Mike

    no just a decent gasget
can also get little washer/tabs that go under the nut which you then bend up along the flat side of the nut so it cant turn and come loose, stock on silvia's

    or oval nuts

Thanks bru, will acquire some locking tabs. Got the gasket and bolts/nuts already. Apparently the nuts are locking but I'd rather have a failsafe.

    http://www.taarks.com

Everything you'll ever need for maintainance on your Nissan (you're little info thing says you drive an S13).

Taark has the locking tabs, plus nuts and studs and gaskets too.. Its actually worthwhile spending an hour browsing through, its surprising how much he has.

    I presume that's a locking nut?

macaroni yes they are locking nuts.

can you fit 2 nuts onto the studs? a 2nd nut can be used a a locking device.

Else find some nice aircraft locking nuts, they are designed in an oval shape and stretch over the round stud. Downside, hard to find in metric sizes.

I've had certain cars that managed to have turbos fall off despite locking tabs and whatnot.
Resbond thread locker helped, it's annoying to do turbo gaskets so having multiple backups doesn't hurt.
I've had the conelok copper nuts fall off, no idea how but they just have on my car....

I think I'm gonna try the double nuts idea by macca^, I've also got some permatex high temp thread sealant, and also locking tabs, if I manage to get some by the end of this week.

I googled Resbond and I can't seem to find an Aussie distributor?

Double nuts, tried that once, didn't work haha!
I found that most combos worked on the street though, it's when you hit the track that they all come adrift!

Lol ok so the double nuts won't fit. So i only use the permatex and the locking nuts that came with the studs I bought. Hope it doesn't come apart anytime soon. That was one fuck ass of a job!

AND the battery's gone flat cos I left it for 4 weeks without starting it up, Optima dry cells don't respond well to jump starts? Do I need to leave it attached to another car to charge for awhile or are dry cells goneskies when they go flat?
