    SR20DET Stutter/Sputter/Boggging + bad fuelecon

    Hi guys
    I've got a 1997 180SX Type X running an sr20det blacktop;

Nothing has been changed except for a turn-flow fmic and a 3" TBE. Stock ECU/Stock Turbo etc

So now to the root of the problem; mainly uphill light-mid throttle I'm getting engine sputter. Onset really comes on just before boost kicks in so around 1800-3400k rpm.

Initially I thought it was my O2 sensor due to horrendous fuel econ; 15ltrs/100kms (cousin's GTR gets this). I understand that it ain't no prius but I didn't think such a stock black-top would be giving this bad fuel mileage. However after doing some reading about a bad O2 sensor's (bad idle/engine shutting off) I began to think it wasn't the same problem as mine. My idle is around 2k rpm until she warms up then it's around 900-1000 and hold constant.

I found a youtube video of something similar, but not exactly. My sputter goes for longing and the chugs are more constant.

    1:58-2:01 in the video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tve6WVWyQ6k

Other problems that I've discovered it could be is:
    - coil-packs/ spark plugs / dirty injectors?
    - boost leak; it holds boost well past the sputter, the prev. owner had a boost gauge hooked up but removed it (didn't give it to me either) could there be a leak be happening because of poor removal/installation?
    - throttle position ?
    - dirty AFM
    - bad grounding/earthing in my fuel pump

If anyone has had similar problems, help would be much appreciated

TL;DR sputtering just before hitting boost and pretty bad fuel economy

    Cheers for reading

Is it down a cylinder when this happens? Running on 3 cylinder etc? Leads to timing related issue I would think. Mis firing etc

Or does it just lose power and fill like its running out of puff? It could be running lean within this rev range which leads to a fuel related issue, like bad fuel pump or injectors

Yep fairly sure stock back blow off valve. Nothing mechanically has been changed besides zorst and fmic.

Clean everything! Thanks John! I posted on N/S with the same problem people have also been saying most likely spark plugs.

Actually it does sort of feel like 3 cylinders cause I had a similar problem with my miata. Not really lack of power but it just chugs/bogs before boost comes on.

I'll have to check that as well.

When I get chance on the weekend or hopefully sometime earlier I'll try to check all your suggestions. Will keep you updated.

Thanks for the replies and the help guys!

dont forget to change your fuel filter either. I had a similar issue and the fuel filter ended up being the culprit.

sounds like your fuel pump is getting lazy and not supplying enough fuel pressure
