Best JDM Car for High School/College Student

Hey there. My names Luke. When I was 8 years old, I saw a cartoon. But this wasn't Spongebob or Pokemon, no, it was an episode of Initial D. I didn't know it at the time, but I would later watch every episode, mesmerized by the cars and drivers I saw. I then made a decision, to buy my own car, and drift it till the tires wore off. A week after I turned 14, (The minimum age to work in MN) I got a job hauling trees for a garden center in town. I then got a second job belaying people at our local rock wall. I then got a THIRD job making coffee at a bakery/coffee shop. After a year and a half of work, I've saved $3,500 for my car. And now I have a problem, I can't choose. Because I live in a community where everybody drives lifted trucks, no one here can help me. So I am wondering, what do you think I should buy? I have 3,500 to start out, and will eventually be spending another $5,000+ on mods. I'm open to everything, but some cars I'm considering are 1. 99 Impreza 2.5 RS 2. 94 Mazda MX-5 Miata 3. 96 Nissan 240SX Thanks!

Depends entirely on what you want.
If you want to drift? 240sx
    If you want handling? mx5
    If you want grip? Imprezza.

If I were to take each one to a track day, which would be the fastest?

Fastest? Imprezza probably, if you're talking wrx model.
    If not, probably mx5.

What'd be the most fun? mx5 probably

Firstly, well done on saving up the $ for your first car. Must be exciting!

For me, if I was in your position, MX5 would be my go.

    Convertible
Easy to work on yourself doing DIY
relatively cheap and easy to run, service and maintain
    plethora of aftermarket parts
    great handling
    reliable
    great chassis

    downsides :

    two seater
not the most practical of cars
slowest compared to the other two cars in straight line
    not the torquiest of motors

with 5K mods you can really make the car handle nice with some coilovers, decent rubber and bracing. Plenty of options for wheels too and given you can fit 14' and 15's on these and get pretty low on offset, you can get some sick stance on some of these as well as the rubber being cheap to buy as they will be for 14 or 15" wheels.
That and also, on a nice sunny day when the weather is just right, you can take it out for a cruise with the top down. Though that being said, with you being in Minnesota, i know it snows a shit tonne over there hahaha!

That's not a downside for a highschool kid, because it means you don't have to ferry your scabby mates around

Too true, I drove my mk2 MR2 daily to school during year 12..laughed as my friends were bombarded with 'lift' requests once they got their licenses.
Apparently since you have a two seater people think you're not able to give even a single person a ride, it has its benefits!
