Find My Brakes: Mazda RX-8 Rotary Bliss

The Mazda RX-8 was built as a successor to Mazda’s revered rotary-powered sportscar, the RX-7. Thanks to its front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, tight and responsive chassis, handsome styling and revised 13B rotary powerplant, the RX-8 had all the right ingredients for Mazda’s next chapter in the rotary sports car story.

The Mazda RX-8 was released a year after the final FD3S RX-7 rolled off the assembly line and saw production all the way up until 2012. There were two major differences between the old and new flagship sports cars. The first being a lack of forced induction with the RX-8, opting for the newly-designed naturally-aspirated 13B Renesis rotary powerplant that pushed out a healthy 170kW. The second difference? That unique coupe/sedan body, featuring four seats and four doors but no B-pillar. Seriously, how neat are those rear suicide doors?

The tight chassis engineering and near 50/50 weight distribution, coupled with smooth power delivery from that high-revving rotary, the RX-8 is an absolute joy to chuck around in the corners, making it a popular choice for those looking for a weekender or a track warrior. And of course, to go fast you need to be able to stop hard and Bendix has just the right brake pads to suit your RX-8.

The Bendix Ultimate is a high performance brake pad that is engineered for pure stopping power on windy roads or on the track. However, daily drivability is not compromised, thanks to the special Bendix noise absorbing shims. Providing excellent pedal feel from the get-go, the Bendix Ultimate is highly tolerant of extreme temperatures for fade free braking.
